It's New.....

As in it's a new post on my blog. I think we can be done with Christmas now.

2 weeks after my poor little dog died I had my own health scare - just to add salt to the major wound - thankfully nothing seems to be amiss and I am fine, not exactly out of the woods but at least standing by the side of them feeling relieved. So all good. I will now try to compose myself and bring some regularity to this blog space.

Has anyone heard the latest release from Kim Wilde? Midnight Train - I love it!! It sounds more like eighties music than eighties music! Kind of a dollop of Gary Numan, a teaspoon of Blondie, with a pinch of The Vapours. Anyhow, if you haven't heard it here it is....

This week's values: Antediluvian; Exasperate; Nefarious; Necromancy

  1. Welcome back, Ms Scarlet!! Sorry to hear about your "scare", and glad to knowe you're feeling better, despite the current gloom and chilly weather.

I adore that new Kim Wilde choon! It's actually on the list for my next "Pick of the Pops" blog - which may well turn up sooner than we think...

Onward and upward in 2025, I say! Jx

    1. Jon - I had a hunch that you might have Kim on a future post so I thought I'd get in quick as I love it so much!
Yep, I need to get my finger out for 2025 otherwise it'll be Christmas again before I know it.

  2. Oh, poor Kim. Fancy having to resort to public transport like a civilian. Still, it IS very 80s and I love it!

I'm relieved to hear that things seem fine healthwise. Presumably some reasonably regular checkups are on the cards?

P.S. I had to look up the meaning of antediluvian. I knew the word, but couldn't remember seeing it with any context, hence the swotting.

    1. Mr Devine - I like the way the woman sitting next to her on the train is giving her funny looks - some things never change - that's how people used to look at me when I used to sing.
Yes, though not too frequent check-ups - I'm described as 'low concern', which suits me.
There are so many words in the dictionary that don't get used enough - I thought I would right that wrong! And, I do have a significant birthday this year!!

    1. Dinah - You ended up in the pink and white bucket next to the freezer in the outhouse! Ridiculous! I have put you in your rightful place - on a stool next to the bar.

  5. This song was sent to my inbox a couple of months ago for my listening pleasure and I was racking my brain at the line she says at 0:42 déjà entendu, but from where, I asked myself? Of course, Turning Japanese by the Vapours, thank you Scarlet I should sleep soundly tonight knowing that, the whole song screams Train by Goldfrapp. You never know, one day we might get to hear something new from The Dooleys.

I'm glad you're on the mend, does your recent health scare warrant a blue badge for the car?

    1. Mitzi - At that point I found myself singing, out loud, 'turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really think so' - and I gave myself a curious look because I was putting on mascara at the time.
I loved The Vapours! I'd like to hear something new from them.
Do you know how hard it is to get a blue badge these days???!!!! Not even I can act that well. Anyhow, I'm still trying to get a Blue Peter badge.

  6. I LIKE IT! Yeah, I hear the Gary Numan vibe and the Blondie thing as well. This could have been released in 1984!

    1. Ms Nations - It really could've been! It's really good to hear a 'choon' from Kim - apparently she's also a good gardener.

  7. Oh no, a health scare for you too!?!? Oh, bother! I hope everything turns out as well as one can hope. Next week is week 8 in my recovery and I should be able to get to take a bath. One has to look forward to small delights. Having chocolate after a nice dinner is also a small delight to look forward too.

I truly hope you have a good year in 2025! Several friends have had their pets pass away recently, mostly older pets, but a few younger ones too. It makes me want to hold on to my dog, Daisy, all the tighter; but she doth protest!

    1. Yeah, your post humbled me, Melanie, and made me feel extremely grateful that I didn't need that operation - well, not yet in any case.
I'm all for looking forward to small delights, and I always have a couple of squares of dark chocolate after dinner.
Hug that protesting dog!! And also give Daisy a hug from me.

    2. Yesterday Daisy had a nice bath at the groomers and now she's as soft as a newborn Selkie! I tried to give her a hug on your behalf, but she slipped through my arms like a wet bar of soap and threw her ball at my face. As if to say, "Less hugging, more play, Dammit!"

    3. Melanie - Awww! My Sid used seem to want to play in the mud after a bath. They always seem to be like teenagers saying 'gerroff' I want to play now.

  10. I would translate "low concern" as no immediate action needed, no priority, just accept "as is", regular observation. It's three months since the scare, so a little optimism seems not to be premature ?

  11. Mr Mags - Yes - just something to keep an eye on. This getting older malarkey is a flipping minefield.

  12. I thought Kim Wilde became a gardener, all shabby overalls and grubby fingernails. Nice to see she can still wield a kohl pencil!
Glad you're on the mend, getting older really is a pain. X

    1. Eryl - Yes, I believe Kim did become a gardener, but it's nice to here her voice again and that see that she can still glam up with the best of them.
I am too faint of heart for ageing!

    1. Savvy - I don't think Kim was big in the US, which is ironic considering her most famous tune is 'Kids in America'!
      Thank you, Savvy.

  14. Oh dear! I drop out of blogging for a while and when I come back, I don't understand it! The toon? Vaguely familiar, tickling a brain cell somewhere, waaaay back.
But it's good to see you back to the keyboard!
