    1. Jon - I’m thinking of going to bed and not getting up again until April. Wasn’t today awful? So much rain. And worse than that was the Christmas records being played on the radio. I can’t bear it! I need an escape plan.

    2. We have ours booked - a week in Spain at the beginning of Feb! I'll just grit my teeth till then... Jx

    3. Jon - I wouldn’t have any teeth left if I gritted my teeth until February - I’ve done it before and ended up having to see a maxillofacial surgeon - so be careful!
I spent today unsubscribing from all the retail buggers who have been pestering me to spend money for most of November - it was extremely satisfying.

    4. I'm thinking of unsubscribing to Sarah Raven. She sends out nags about her bloody plant sales practically every day! Jx

    5. I never take much notice of the sales emails I get and decided most of them had to go. They were wearing out my deleting finger.
You will choose when you want plants, you probably don’t need reminders all year round.

    6. Agreed! And I only really subscribe to gardening newsletters for inspiration - I much prefer going to a garden centre in person and picking up basketfuls of new plants... [To be honest, that's true for most shopping.] Jx

    7. Ah, but now you can use The Infomaniac Gardening Event as inspiration instead!
I miss shops. It’s such hassle to get to any.

  2. We have a tv here, but can't seem to find anything worthwhile. I did stumble onto "Dinner Ladies" on youtube which bucked me up no end and The Man wants to subscribe to some tv thingy that has sports coverage. Like watching Sth Africa demolish Wales? No way!

    1. Nooooooooooo! Dinah, I don’t allow sports channel subscriptions in this house. Any sport can be watched on a laptop or tablet, preferably in a faraway room, or in the shed.
I watched the whole of Ab Fab last week, including the film. There is nothing on TV here either!

  4. I agree the weather has been atrocious, it was grim in Weymouth this morning when I visited, via the live Web cam on YouTube.

    1. Mitzi - Webcam - probably the best way to visit towns and cities! I have had a wander around New York via Google Earth - I couldn't get over how straight the roads are.

  5. It's the false cheer pushed on you by all the hack peddlers that make me so cranky. I DO NOT WANT to be cheery, goddamit. How am I supposed to be cheery when it's dark at 5:00?

  6. Mr Peenee - I do not want to do cheery either. I am a contrary creature and the more false cheer that is pushed on me the grumpier I will be.
And, yes, it is too dark! And too wet and muddy.

  7. Goodness ... Here is clear blue sky, the moon vaguely visible in the East ; murk is far away, as in tomorrow and the following days.
Come on, embrace it ! All you need is a CD with the eternal Xmas howlers and a can of fir needle spray ! 't will be grreat !

    1. I will embrace brisk walks in the sunshine, Mr Mags, but I am done with the commercialisation, and those damn repetitive tunes. Ack.
Oh, I might do the roast potatoes as well.

  9. And what is the festive season without holly and snowmen and crackling log fires? I'll tell you what, if you are South of the equator, the festering season is ridiculous decorations, gigantic mounds of winter food and mosquitoes feasting on sweaty , sun-burned flesh! bAH! HUMBUG!

    1. Dinah - Yeah, I can’t imagine a roasted turkey is what you want on a hot day! Do you have an alternative menu? And do you have a significant day during your winter?

    2. I think some folk like to have a "Christmas in July" thing, but I generally avoid all such nonsense. I'll get/make something for the littlies, but the grown-ups can have a bottle of wine and that's it!

  10. Well, your Daily Prompt is VERY exciting and has clearly hit the spot. Just look at all the comments already!

I'm ready for December to be over, too. I don't mind the dark - it means I don't have to stay up late to see the stars - but all the Capitalist Christmas Crap can do one!

  11. I used to get fresh prawns for The Man and ham for me; we'd take a salad, a bottle of bubbles, 2 good glasses and drive to a quiet little beach. If the tide was right, we could swim...not sure what we'll do this year.

    1. That sounds lovely, Dinah! We no longer have turkey and all the trimmings - but we always have a lot of roast potatoes - last year with sea bass.
I've been to the beach on New Year's Day - usually a bit too blustery for any sort of picnic though.
I hope you find something alternative to do this year!

  16. Weather, Holiday crap, and the social internet can bring the joy of sharing misery. Nah, while I'm not exciting about the season it does provide moments of joy.

"wearing out my deleting finger" - that's certainly an internet era phrase.
